UPDATE: April 25th
Well I've finally lost my mind. I came across 3 Volvo
intercooler "Cores". I got them to increase CFM, to increase the top end
performance, and I believe that having them sandwiched together will increase
volume inside the cores, thus slowing down the air that is traveling through
each vane; resulting in COLDER AIR!
But my main purpose of doing this was to eliminate the
restriction of the stock Volvo intercooler. I've read that they only have about
350cfm of flow. I believe that I am needing more at this point.
Four Banger's topend charge is falling off a little. Not much, but
enough to make me wonder how hard would it really pull if it didn't have the CFM
restriction. I hope to take about a 1/4 of a second off of my 1/4 mile
times.
The cores are in great shape. I plan to cut off the outer 1/2
inch of metal that was originally used to mount the end tanks. That will
"tighten up" the three cores and bring them closer together. The final product
should be a 3 3/4 inch wide intercooler that is capable of flowing 900
CFM!
I have plenty of room to mount an intercooler this thick. If
you remember from my double length fan spacers. LOL Hey they work! People still
laugh when I show them. They say, "You can't do that! It's gona fly off!" Maybe
so, but I will be sitting behind the wheel if it does. Haha
No really, I've made sure that this was perfectly true and balanced, and
bought grade 8 bolts for it.
The
three kids sitting together. I just love them so much.... LOL

Well I finally got around to cutting the intercooler's
excess metal off and have some pics. This is as tight as I could get them.
The final product should be awesome! Im gona have it welded very soon.
Check out my upper intake manifold and throttle body fabrications.
