Test Driving My Turbo 2.3 Mustang

Finally came the first test drive! I had got enough of the wires hooked up to drive the car down the parking lot. The 2.3 responded fairly good though the rear brakes are toast! I started out from a dead stop and brought up the revs to about 3500 and slowly put the gas down. It seemed to bogg a little out of the hole but then the boost came on. I saw the boost gauge go up to about 8 pounds and then I let out. It pulled pretty strong and made a nice whistle too.

My first launch. Notice tire smoke on right rear?

After the first pull, I shut the car off and did a spot check to see if everything was alright. Every ting Oh Tay! The second pass in the parking lot I reved it to about 4000, dumped the clutch, and the car baked 'em out of the hole! The front left tire nearly came off of the ground! I definetly see potential here. The engine was able to achieve a steady 9 pounds of boost all the way through the RPMs! I was glad to see that the waste gate was still functioning properly after its brush with death in the junkyard.

My second launch! Even with stock 3.08 gears and a one legger rearend this thing ripped out of the hole! I think that this thing is gona lift the front wheel when I get posi and gear!

After letting my new 2.3 project sit a couple of weeks, (due to no cash) I bought a bag of zip ties and went to work on the electrical nightmare called the interrior. While working around the engine I figured that I should be able to crank up the boost by altering the waste gate pressure line. By doing this, and then doing a burnout in the parking lot, the boost went to 14 pounds! The 2.3 now pulls way up in the RPM range and set me back in the seat! After my amazement, I thought an intercooler might be the next step. But where to get it is another problem.

Onward to Intercooling!
